The Super Eagles intensify their preparation for the fast-approaching Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe, with the players expressing their mind ahead of the games.
According to the Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi, said it is always a great thing wearing the green white jersey representing Nigeria.
Iwobi who was red-carded in the ill-fated 1-0 loss to Tunisia in the round-of-16 of the last ACON in Cameroon disclosed to reporters at the team’s camp in Abuja that it is always marvelous to represent your country.
He however said the intensity of the game in Africa is far more different from what he always experienced while representing England during his youthful age.
The former Arsenal star said African football is very physical, where opposing players have a war -like mentality to a game.
“Of course, African football is different. There is fire and the intensity is high and very physical. It is almost war Iike,” Iwobi said.
“The task is different and the players very difficult. But it is always marvelous to represent your country.
“It is honour to always represent your country. That’s the feeling every player has when they represent their country.
“Nigeria, we are strong and we believe that we have the players and we feel that we can beat any team. We just have to prove it.”
Meanwhile, Rangers of Scotland midfielder, Joe Aribo, has said he preferred to play in the advancing midfield role for the Super Eagles.
Aribo, who has played different roles for both club and country, however said that the most important thing is to work for the success of the team.
“It all depends on what the coach wants me to do. I had played as defensive midfielder, behind the striker in an attacking midfield role,” Aribo said in Abuja.
“I feel my preferred role is the attacking midfield position. My goal on the pitch is to work for the success of the team in every game.”
