by Our Reporter

Justice Tanko Muhammad has resigned from his position as Chief Justice of Nigeria.

According to sources, Muhammad tendered his resignation on Sunday, citing ill health. No formal announcement has, however, been made.

Preparations are currently ongoing to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, in the acting capacity.

The resignation is coming days after 14 justices of the Supreme Court wrote him a letter to lament the poor state of courts in the country.
