The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has condemned in clear terms a story emanating from AFP that a British kit company had to come to the rescue of Nigeria contingents at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK.
In a press release by the online platform, it was said that a British sportswear manufacturer had to answer an SOS call from Nigeria’s Commonwealth
Games team after they were left with no kit.
According to the statement, Gino Rufinato, manager of the MG Sportswear firm, which is based in a town near host city Birmingham, at first thought it was a “wind-up” before launching his 14 staff into action.
While reacting to the said release, a media aide to the minister, Toyin Ibitoye, said it was most unfortunate that such a malicious lies has been going around.
Ibitoye told our correspondent that 300 Team Nigeria Kits procured by the Ministry of Youth and Sports were delivered over two weeks ago and have since been issued to each and every athletes. These includes track suites, polo T shirts , sneakers, face cap, back pack, trolley bag, shorts, etc.
Team Nigeria athletes have since being wearing them.
“The kits for each federation is different,” Ibitoye said.
“Each federation produces specific kits for its athletes. We are aware that AFN and other federations have since concluded plans with different manufacturers with different delivery times and they are on top of it.
“We wish to condemn the erroneous believe the said report has generated. Team Nigeria has its kits.”
