Paris Saint-Germain is readying a move for N’Golo Kante after Thomas Tuchel plunged the midfielder’s future at the club into doubt.
The 31-year-old has less than a year left on his deal at Stamford Bridge and is the club’s second-highest paid player.
Kante’s injury problems have worsened over the last two years, with the Frenchman missing 40 matches through injury in the last two seasons.
The midfielder is now, despite his talent, an unreliable figure at Stamford Bridge and the club is reluctant to give him a new deal unless he significantly reduces his salary.
Tuchel confirmed last week that the club are looking at Kante’s position and are unsure how to resolve the issue.
‘You cannot [disregard Kanté’s injury record],’ Tuchel said last week.
‘You have to consider everything that is on the table, and on the table is his potential, on the table is his influence and his quality.
‘But on the table of course is his age, his salary and his injury rate, course. Of course. From there you build a whole picture and try to find a solution.’
