There is a solid reason why Wizkid did not get a Grammy Award nomination ahead of the awards in 2023 and the explanation is in this article.
The Recording Academy confirmed its full list of nominees on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, ahead of the historic 65th edition of the prestigious Grammy Awards; many could not help but notice the absence of one of Africa’s biggest exports, Wizkid.
Numerous questions surfaced on social media as many tried to understand why Big Wiz had been excluded; the answer is, however, not far-fetched as the singer did not release any project within the eligibility period for the Grammy awards.
WHAT IS THE ELIGIBILITY PERIOD FOR GRAMMY AWARDS?
According to the Recording Academy, the organizer of the Grammy Awards, the eligibility period for this prestigious award is Friday, October 1, 2021, till Friday, September 30, 2022. This means the only works or projects that can be considered for the 65th edition have to be released within this specified period.
Wizkid’s ‘More Love Less Ego’ was not released till the 11th of November 2022; this means although it is not eligible for the Grammy Awards 2023, it would be eligible for the nomination ahead of the 66th edition in 2024.
