Real Madrid have suffered a major injury blow ahead of their Champions League semi-final clash with Manchester City on May 9.
Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg.
The Croatia international came off against Girona on Tuesday and immediately had ice applied to his thigh after experiencing significant pain.
Real Madrid released a statement regarding Modric’s injury, saying, “Following tests carried out on Luka Modrić by the Real Madrid Medical Services, an injury to the back of his left thigh has been diagnosed. His progress will be monitored.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said at his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s clash with Almeria on Saturday: “Luka Modric is injured. We don’t know when he will be back, we will see for the Copa del Rey final – we don’t know.”
It is still unclear if Modric will return in time to feature in Real Madrid’s next four fixtures against Almeria, Real Sociedad, Osasuna and Manchester City.
