The world football governing body, FIFA has built a mini-stadium in Birnin Kebbi, capital of Kebbi State.
FIFA disclosed this in a statement recently released on its website.
The $1.189 million project was undertaken by the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, and supported by the FIFA Forward programme.
The NFF representative in Kebbi State, Abubakar Ladan said the aim of the project is to develop football in the state.
He noted that of the seven states in the northwestern region, “Kebbi has the largest number of amateur teams.”
He said efforts to develop football in the state are “being held back by the lack of facilities,” and added that “this artificial pitch is a boost and a push in the right direction.”
The statement added that a simple facility was being constructed in Ugborodo, Delta State.
The two projects have received around $2 million in funding from FIFA through its Forward Programme.
