The German FA have confirmed the termination of Hansi Flick’s contract following a humiliating defeat against Japan in a friendly match.
The head of the German FA, Bernd Neuendorf explained in his statement that the decision to sack Hansi Flick was because of the poor performance in recent games. This is the first time that the contract of a German coach will be terminated for the first time in the history of the association.
“The bodies of the DFB shared the same view that the national team now needs a new impulse. With next year’s Euro in sight we need enthusiastic mood and confidence.”
The 58-year-old was appointed in May 2021 when he left his role at Bayern Munich in May 2021 to replace Joachim Löw. He signed a three-year contract that was supposed to see him through to the end of the Euro 2024 but after 12 wins in 25 matches, he could not stay to see his contract out.
Germany have now lost four of their six matches since their early exit from the World Cup in December, the recent which is the 4-1 defeat against Japan.
Rudi Völler, Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner will now take charge of German national team for the friendly game against France on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
