Former Manchester United player Paul Pogba has confirmed that he was close to calling it quits from football last year (2022).
The French International said in an interview that he had significant thoughts during that period. Paul Pogba was threatened in his apartment in Paris by a gang of armed men who demanded millions from the star for ‘protection services.
The player’s brother, Mathias Pogba, spent three months as the main suspect in the situation. This led him to spend three months in prison but he had always claimed his innocence. However, he was released under judicial review, but he has been prohibited from contacting his brother, leaving France and using any social networks.
Pogba made this revelation in an interview with Al Jazeera where he confirmed his thoughts of calling it quit.
”Money changes people, it can break up a family. It can create a war. Sometimes I was just by myself thinking, I don’t want to have money anymore. I just don’t want to play anymore. I just want to be with normal people, so they will love me for me not for the fame, not for the money.’ Sometimes it’s tough.”
The 30-year-old had to battle with an injury which saw him miss the whole of 2022/23 season following his return to Juventus at the end of his contract at Old Trafford.
