Cameroon FA Sack Head Coach Rigobert Song

by Our Reporter

Cameroon Football Association president Samuel Eto has announced that Rigobert Song has now been sacked as the head coach of the Indomitable Lions.

Samuel Eto confirmed the Cameroon Football Association’s decision in an interview with media outlet France 24 on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. The announcement comes right after rumours of the future of Rigobert Song at the helm of affairs at Cameroon being bleak after a woeful AFCON 2023 campaign.

Samuel Eto discussing the reason behind this decision stated, “He has brought a lot to this team but the laws of football being what they are… We have not achieved our objectives, and our executive committee and I do not see ourselves renewing the contract. I had the opportunity to discuss it with him. I gave our positions and now we have to think about the future, while wishing him every success in his future career.”

With AFCON 2025 fast approaching Cameroon would be looking to fill in the position as early as possible to get the ball rolling for both the tournament and the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
