Enugu Rangers defeated Gombe United 2-1 to win the 2023-24 Nigeria Professional Football League title in style for the first time since 2016.

Former MFM FC coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, led the team to the title glory after finishing second with the Olukoya Boys in 2017.

Kazeem Ogunleye opened the scoring for the visitors in the third minute before Godwin Obaje added the second goal four minutes later for his 12th NPFL goal of the season.

Anas Hassan reduced the deficit for Gombe United before the end of the first half.

Enugu Rangers will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League alongside Remo Stars, who finished second on the log with 65 points following a 2-1 win over Katsina United in Ikenne on Sunday.

The Sky Blues Stars returns to Africa’s flagship competition after a first round exit to Medeama last season.

Enyimba International of Aba finished third on the log after a 2-0 win over Plateau United to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Newly-promoted Sporting Lagos suffered an immediate relegation back to the Nationwide league after a damaging 1-0 defeat to Shooting Stars in Ibadan.
