Paralympics: Oluwafemiayo clinches second gold for Nigeria, breaks world record

Team Nigeria, on Sunday, the last day of the 2024 Paralympic Games taking place in Paris, grabbed another gold medal in a spectacular way.

Folashade Oluwafemiayo, in the Women’s over 86kg with a bodyweight of 92.20kg lifted 167kg to break two world records in two minutes in the Para Lifting event of the games.

China’s Deng Xuemei with a bodyweight of 107.60kg won the silver with a lift of 155kg while Egypt’s Nadia Ali with a bodyweight of 115.20kg settled for the silver with her 145kg effort.

Minister of Sports, John Enoh, after the the feat achieved said; “Oluwafemiayo has delivered an outstanding performance at the Paralympics. She achieved something no other woman has done in powerlifting. She served as the Team Captain for Team Nigeria’s contingent at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, demonstrating great skill, determination, and an excellent spirit.

“Let’s come together to congratulate and celebrate our champion for bringing pride to herself and our great nation, Nigeria.”

Nigeria has now won a total of seven medals comprising two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
