The members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have expressed their confidence in Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker, following rumors about her potential resignation.
The motion was introduced by Hon. Oladipo Ajomale, representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2, and seconded by Gbolahan Ogunleye, representing Ikorodu constituency 1, during Monday’s plenary.
Subsequently, Hon. Temitope Adewale, the majority leader, proposed a motion to adjourn the plenary indefinitely, which was unanimously accepted by the house.
Earlier in the day, security personnel had cordoned off the speaker’s office as speculation grew regarding Meranda’s possible resignation.
Police and task force officers were stationed around the complex, ensuring order with some officers patrolling the premises.
Meranda made history as the first female speaker of the Lagos assembly on January 13, after the removal of Mudashiru Obasa while he was abroad.
Obasa, upon his return, contested the process, claiming that “proper procedures were not followed” and insisting that he remained the “legitimate speaker of the house.”
