The battle for the final continental slot continues to go down the wire with Abia Warriors maintaining their grip on third position after forcing home team, Niger Tornadoes, to a 1-1 draw in Minna with Lagos-based Ikorodu City defeating Bayelsa United 3-2 in Lagos.
Enyimba still with a slim chance of making the top three also secured a win with retired Super Eagles’ striker, Brown Ideye, turning back the years as he scored two first half goals to hand Enyimba a 2-0 win against Kwara United in his first start in weeks for the People’s Elephant.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations’ winner scored his first goal in the 21st minute before confirming the victory with the second goal just a few seconds before the half time.
Abia Warriors are currently in third position with 57 points, followed by Ikorodu City on 56 points and Enyimba on 55 points with two games to the end of the season.
In Enugu, Nasarawa maintained their push away from relegation with a 2-1 comeback win against relegated Lobi Stars.
Lobi Stars took the lead through Japheth in the 4th minute of the game with Shina Kumater and Anas Yusuf turning the game around with two goals in the 47th and 58th minute respectively.
Akwa United and Sunshine Stars are almost on the verge of relegation after losing their MatchDay 36 games, respectively.
Insurance defeated Akwa United 1-0 in Benin with Shooting Stars also recording same result against Sunshine Stars in Ibadan.
Heartland also did their survival a huge boost, defeating Plateau United 2-0 with Suraj Lawal scoring both goals.
