The coordinator of the maiden GCIOBA 86/92 set Closed Table Tennis Championship, Wale Ajetunmobi, has said the student of the Government College Ibadan, are all set for the tournament arranged to introduce the young ones into various sports.
According to the coach, it has all been about studies in the school but the old students have come together to introduce sports and they are starting with the Closed Table Tennis Championship.
“We supposed to have started last week, but due to the midterm break, it was postponed till November 5,” he said.
“The training started like five months ago because we need to take the students through the rudiments of the game from how to serve, charts, officiating and so on because most of them are novice.
“Before the start, they have been able to understand so many things and we are going to witness a good tournament.
“It was supposed to start on Thursday November 6, but we decided to start on Wednesday, November 5, because we have so many games.
“They have five houses in the school and eight students registered, so we are having eight groups of five students each and two are going to be making it into the Round of 16 from each of the groups.
“I am happy with the attitude of the students to what we have been training them and with what I am seeing, they are going to be getting better with proper monitoring going forward.”
The houses competing at the championship are Carr, Field, Powell, Swanston and Grier with the students targeting amazing cash prizes and booksellers’ Vouchers..
