AFCON 2025: Morocco in good start, beat Comoros in opener

by Our Reporter

Hosts Morocco began their Africa Cup of Nations bid off to a winning start by beating Comoros 2-0 in the tournament’s opening game on Sunday.

Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi got the goals in the second half of the Group A encounter at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat as Morocco extended their world-record winning run to 19 consecutive matches
Credit to Comoros, who were huge underdogs but defended admirably for long spells and could have equalised when Rafiki Said broke clear but was denied by a super Yassine Bounou save.
Yannick Pandor saved Soufiane Rahimi’s 11th-minute penalty, but that was a relatively routine save in the scheme of a string of impressive stops by the goalkeeper.
Comoros will play next game against Zambia on Friday.
