A former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has commended the recent move of Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman from Italian Serie a side, Atalanta, to Spanish LaLiga team, Atletico.
Oliseh said the move was a step up for the player and a good omen for other Nigerian players.
“Looking at it, Atletico Madrid plays almost every year in the UEFA Champions League. The bonuses from championship are huge, the Spanish league pays well, you are not going there to earn poorly. The tax system he is good and allows players to do well. The cost of living is cheaper. This man is going to do well financially whether you like it or not. If you’ve never played in a top club you will never know the impact of a top club in your life. I am blessed to have played in three top clubs so when you play in a top club you become big and that is what Atletico Madrid is. It is a boost for Nigeria’s football and now, more young players can hope and dream of going to these top leagues,” Oliseh said.
Lookman only on Tuesday completed his move to the Spanish La Liga side and he expressed delight over his move.
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s amazing. I’m happy to come here that is another top league. It’s a new language but I’m excited, I like to learn and it’s what I’m looking forward to. There are amazing footballers here and I’m looking forward to playing with them. I have to learn and get better everyday. It’s a new challenge for me and I’m excited to do it. I am very aware of the fans and supporters and the passion that they bring to the players,” Lookman said.
