A shocking incident has rocked the University of Lagos (UNILAG) following allegations that a senior lecturer, Dr. Kadiri Akeem Babalola, an Associate Professor in the Department of Botany, sexually assaulted a 20-year-old female undergraduate. As it’s a nude video, we can’t drop it here due to policy, so If you’re reading from Phoenix, tap ‘Read Original’ above to see the full article and the video.
According to reports, the victim alleged that the assault occurred when she visited Dr. Babalola’s office to resolve issues concerning her academic results. Instead of receiving the academic assistance she sought, the lecturer allegedly took advantage of her.
The case has sparked outrage among students, staff, and the public, with many calling for a thorough investigation and strict disciplinary action against the accused if found guilty. Gender rights activists have also emphasized the need for universities to strengthen policies against sexual harassment and create safe reporting channels for students who fall victim to such abuse.
Sadly, this is not the first time a Nigerian lecturer has been accused of exploiting students. In 2019, a BBC undercover investigation exposed several lecturers across Nigerian universities who were caught soliciting sex from female students in exchange for grades. The exposé, famously tagged “Sex for Grades”, uncovered shocking details of sexual misconduct at UNILAG and the University of Ghana.
One of the lecturers implicated in the documentary, Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu of UNILAG’s Faculty of Arts, was suspended after being caught on camera making inappropriate advances toward a female student. The scandal led to renewed public calls for strict laws and enforcement against sexual harassment in academic institutions.
