A former Super Eagles Skipper, Sunday Oliseh, has expressed shock over the way many Nigerians are celebrating the Eagles qualification for 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
Oliseh said many Nigerians in recent time are not used to see Super Eagles winning with wide margin and that was why the 4-0 win over Benin was strange to some people.
“We cannot be celebrating mediocrity. With due respect, we should be picking the ticket outright. And I think personally it is important for us to look at the situation on ground. Two months ago, they said it was totally over. To now get this little glimpse of hope, it is understandable.
“But there is also something you have to look at, Nigeria is a young population. Anybody who is less than 30 years old with all due respect did not seeing the glorious days of Nigerian football. What they know is what they see. They are used to seeing the team struggle to get results. It’s crazy. Whereas the first game Nigeria ever played against South Africa ended in 4-0.
“In the end, maybe it is justified to rejoice because we have a lifeline now and it means it’s still in our hands,” the for Juventus player stressed.
