The maiden edition of the Lagos State All Styles Karate Masters Workshop 2026, which commenced on April 18, attracted over 133 registered participants, bringing together an exceptional mix of masters, instructors, and practitioners across various karate styles.

The workshop was conceived as a strategic initiative to standardise training, promote cross-style collaboration, and strengthen the technical capacity of karate practitioners across Lagos State.

The programme began with an intellectually engaging opening day, headlined by insightful and thought-provoking lectures delivered by Dr. Jack Mbom and Sir Dr. Kyoshi Brasca Ifeadi.

Their sessions set the tone for the workshop, emphasising not only the technical aspects of karate but also its philosophical foundations—discipline, leadership, mental resilience, and the evolving role of the sport in modern society.

Participants were also exposed to key areas such as athlete development, officiating standards, and the critical role of masters in shaping future generations.

The second day featured intensive and highly engaging practical sessions, where participants had the rare opportunity to learn directly from some of the most respected figures in Nigerian and African karate.

Distinguished masters in attendance included Dr. Jack Mbom, Hanshi G.O. Goby China, Shihan Mavie Emechete-Attoh, Sir Dr. Kyoshi Brasca Ifeadi, Shihan Alfred Ohimain, Hanshi Lucky Ebunu, and Shihan Ayodeji Oluwafemi Idowu.

They were supported by notable senior practitioners such as Shihan Wilson Okon, Kyoshi Paschal Mac-Brown, Shihan Kingsley Onuelu, and Shihan Biyi Ismail, who played key roles in coordinating sessions and assisting within their respective styles, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for participants.

One of the standout features of the workshop was its inclusivity, bringing together participants of different age groups and experience levels; ranging from seasoned masters to young students—under one roof.

Particularly noteworthy was the strong participation of young karatekas, who benefited immensely from direct access to high-level mentorship; an experience expected to significantly enhance their technical development and confidence.

Following the success of the inaugural edition, organisers have announced plans to make the Masters Workshop an annual event, with a vision to expand participation and attract broader international collaboration in future editions.
