The Algeria Football Federation has officially filed a complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) over unfair referee decisions in the quarterfinals clash against Nigeria.
The Desert Foxes were booted out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations last Saturday after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in a highly competitive clash.
Goals from Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams were enough for the Super Eagles to qualify at the expense of their North African counterparts.
In a statement, the Algerian Football Federation called on both CAF and FIFA to open investigation into their game against the Super Eagles, particularly, refereeing errors.
While Nigeria gears up for the semifinals showdown against hosts, Morocco in Rabat, the North African heavyweights will now turn their attention to the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Below is the statement:
Following the elimination of the Algerian national team in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Algerian Football Federation would like to address this message to the national team’s supporters:
While acknowledging the result of the match, the Algerian Football Federation calls on all Algerian supporters to show solidarity and rally around the national team, which is going through a rebuilding phase and continuing its work and development.
Important events are approaching in less than five months, most notably the World Cup finals, which requires collective unity, calmness, and support from everyone.
The players and members of the technical staff have shown commitment and seriousness throughout the competition, which deserves appreciation and encouragement from the entire national football family.
The Algerian Football Federation cannot ignore the refereeing decisions in the last match, which raised questions and caused widespread discontent, as they affected the credibility of African refereeing and do not serve the image of African football internationally.
Accordingly, the Algerian Football Federation contacted the Confederation of African Football, as well as the International Federation of Football Associations, by filing an official complaint accompanied by a request to open an investigation, in order to clarify what happened and to take the appropriate measures in accordance with the applicable regulations.
During this stage, the necessary lessons must be drawn from this participation, in order to strengthen the work done and prepare for the upcoming challenges, with the aim of returning with a stronger and more competitive performance.
The Algerian Football Federation will continue its efforts with steadfastness and determination, harnessing all the necessary human, technical and organizational capabilities, so that the national team remains among the best teams, and a source of pride, joy and honor for Algerian youth.
The Algerian Football Federation extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to all supporters, as well as the media that accompanied the national team throughout this continental adventure. It also thanks the public authorities for their support and for providing the necessary means for the benefit of the national team.
In conclusion, the Algerian Football Federation renews its full confidence in the group, the technical staff, and all those working to advance national football.
