President Bola Tinubu has given more powers to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Newsmen reports that Tinubu did this by giving some approvals for the FCT Administration under the Minister. In this regard, Tinubu pulled the FCTA, out of the Treasury Single Account, TSA.
This move by the federal government means that the Nyesom Wike-led FCTA has been given the power to use the territory’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the development of the FCT.
Wike announced this at a news conference Friday in Abuja. The Minister who has been carrying out demolitions and other restructuring work in the nation’s capital since taking over, also revealed that that the President approved the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission. This Commission will allow staff career progression in the FCT.
The implication of all these is that they bring much more independence to the FCT under Wike’s leadership which was not witnessed in the past years. Consequently, the FCT under Wike would have the powers to generate its IGR, use it to develop the territory and control its Civil Service unlike what used to be in the previous years.
