Nigerian international singer, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about his family’s wealth, revealing that he wasn’t aware of their riches until he turned 13.
In a private interview on Saturday, January 13, 2024, the Grammy nominee shared details about his upbringing and discusses his disciplined father, emphasizing that despite being wealthy, his dad drove a Honda Accord.
In his words, “All this talk about being rich, my dad is very disciplined. He’s quite different; you can tell he’s a very disciplined man. I didn’t know we had money till I was 13. Despite being a billionaire, my dad drove a Honda Accord, I’m telling you.”
Davido reflects on the moment he realized the extent of his father’s wealth, recounting an incident in Nigeria where their house was affected by a mistake, causing damage.
He described their first house, which they had to leave due to the incident, as a big compound with a bungalow where he lived from birth until around age 11.
“Let me tell you how I found out. Something happened in Nigeria, in the area where we lived. There was a mistake, like a bomb blast, and many houses got destroyed. Our first house, from my birth until around age 11, was a big compound with a bungalow. When that incident occurred, we had to leave immediately because the house got so messed up,” he explained.
This revelation provides a unique glimpse into Davido’s upbringing and the realization of his family’s wealth during a formative period in his life.
