It was a colourful ceremony on Friday when the annual Sportsville Special Recognition Award was held in Lagos.
The event which attracted the creme de la creme of sports personalities saw over 18 individuals honoured with various award categories.
Among those honoured was the Chairman of the Nigerian Professional League Board (NPFL), Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye, who went home with the Sports Administrator Of The Year Award, Mark Igoche with the Achiever’s Award, BRILA FM, with the Best Sports Radio Award, while Dr Uyi Akpata, the President of Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), was also decorated with Sportsville Special Recognition Award.
Other recipients on the night were Chief Solomon Ogba, Rt Hon Victor Ochei, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu and Otunba Segun Runsewe who received awards in the Sports Icon Category.
The list also has two women, Mrs Hauwa-Kulu Akinyemi and Hajiya Zainab Saleh who smiled home with the Special Recognition Award.
Kunle Solaja, Jenkins Alumona, Elder Eddington Kuejubola, Sam Ochebo, Chikelue Iloenonysi, Francis Orbih were also honoured with Sportsville Special Recognition Awards as well.
The NPFL Media Officer of the Year Award went to Oladimeji Oshode of Remo Stars.
In the private Sport facilities Category, Remo Stars Facilities Complex came tops while Edo and Delta States emerged as the States with Best Facilities and State with Best Investment in Sports, respectively.
Among the dignitaries that graced the occasion were the immediate past Sports Minister, Chief Sunday Dare, President General of Nigeria’s Supporters Club, Dr Rafiu Ladipo, President of NAWIS, Prof. Mariam Suleiman and initiator of Women Run, Mrs Tayo Popoola.
The list of dignitaries also include the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Hon Biodun Orekoya, Dr Kweku Tandoh and Special Assistant on Sports to the Lagos State Governor, Damilare Orimoloye, among others.
