Nigeria’s renowned music legend, Onyeka Onwenu, known as the “Elegant Stallion,” has been laid to rest in Lagos.
The iconic artiste passed away on July 30, 2024, at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja, after collapsing during an event held in honour of Dr Stella Okoli, Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.
She was 72 years old.
The funeral service took place at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, followed by a private interment at a vault in Ikoyi.
Among the distinguished attendees was Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Onwenu was not only a celebrated musician with a string of hits but also a broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist.
She is survived by her two sons.
