Dotun Oladipo: A Good Man Takes Final Bow

by Our Reporter

Death is inevitable; it is one price we all have to pay. But death comes in different ways, just as nature treats us differently.

When somebody above 70 years dies in this part of the world it is believed the person has tried but elsewhere abroad, 70 is even too young due to the life expectancy of the country. Oladotun Samson Oladipo took a bow from the planet earth on August 25, 2026.

I have known Dotun for over 40 years; he was exceptionally selfless and upright; a true journalism professional to the core.

How do I explain it when we both co-presented a TV programme; Sports Update, on Monday in his office; Eagle Online, and we also spoke on Tuesday morning before he died later in the day? I was completely shattered and devastated when the news of his death got to me. When you say ‘how are you’ to Dotun, his reply will always be ‘Adupe lowo thank God.’

He was such a jolly good fellow among friends; both at home and even at work. His office door is permanently opened. I recall we covered COJA 2003 together for Punch Newspapers.

Only two weeks ago, Dotun took me to the RCCG Camp in August to honour my wife, who was ordained Assistant Pastor at the Redemption Camp.

May God strengthen his wife; Mrs Taiwo Oladipo, (‘Ayaba’). All of us, who were his friends, must rally round this woman to keep the legacy of his company; Eagle Online.

Dotun invested so much in Eagle Online and the media organisation must remain afloat, just as the family must wax stronger to continue with his good legacy.

It was like a dream, but reality set in in the past two days of his final journey home as he was buried on Friday (yesterday). He was such a pleasant personality. Rest on, Dee One, a good man with a good heart.
