It was a bright start for two of Nigeria’s continental teams, as Rivers United and Kwara United secured a 3-0 win in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.
In Port Harcourt, three first half goals secured the win for Rivers Utd, the Nigeria Professional Football League winner, against visiting Watanga FC of Liberia.
Kenechukwu Agu gave the hosts the lead just eight minutes into the game while Ebube Duru doubled the lead for Stanley Eguma’s side 10 minutes later.
Ghana defender, Paul Acquah, added the third goal in first half added time.
The second leg will take place in Monrovia next week Sunday.
In Lagos, Kwara United outclassed AS Douanes in the first leg of the preliminary round fixture of the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup.
The Afonja Warriors in a dominant first half display scored three goals from the boots of Paul Samson and Wasiu Jimoh.
With just five minutes into the game, Paul Samson opened the scoring latching onto a loosed ball from AS Douanes goalkeeper.
In the 16th minute of the game, Kwara Utd was awarded a penalty after Traore Aboubacar handles the ball from Samson Paul’s shot allowing Wasiu Jimoh to make it 2-0.
With five minutes left to end the first half, Wasiu Jimoh completed his brace as he picked up the ball near the midfield and then making a run into the box to give the Harmony Boys a 3-0 lead.
A entertaining second half produced no goal but both teams gave a good account of themselves.
