Edo Queens returned to Nigeria at the weekend after an impressive out in which they also won over $400,000 prize money.
Edo Queens won two games including the 2-1 stunning victory over the defending Champions, Memolodi Sundowns. They also drew one match in the group stage but lost the semi and Third Place games of the tournament.
Head Coach, Moses Aduku, said so much lessons were learnt in the competition.
Aduku said: “One of the lessons is that we must try to play every game that we play to the end because that was one of the things that killed us in the competition. We lost hope when TPE equalized us at the 90th minute but that’s a lesson we should take home. For me as a manager I hope tomorrow the competition starts again and I am there again.
“The experience is great, it’s just like the World Cup. I give kudos to CAF. The organisation is good, timing and everything. I think if I’m given an opportunity again to lead a team to go for this competition, the major goal that Nigeria and West Africa need is winning a trophy and that is my target.”
One of the players, Efe Osakpolor said: It was a wonderful experience. It’s nice as it’s our first time of just winning the league and going there. We really fought so hard. This is not what we really wanted. We wanted to come back as the champion. When we won, we came back and everyone was happy with us and we were fully aware that Nigerians were supporting us but we just thank God. It has really changed our mentality.
And Emem Essien, ”This is not the result we were expecting but that’s football for you. We believe we will work harder to go where we are supposed to go. I wish to still be with the team, perform if that opportunity will still be there due to the shapes of the players and other stuff. The team is actually good when it comes to the football aspect so this is actually not the result we expected but we will go back and plan for a better result next time.
